GAURABDA means Golden Age, symbolised by the advent of the Golden Avatara Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the most merciful incarnation of the Supreme Lord Krishna, in 1486. He established the chanting of the Hare Krishna mahamantra as the best means of salvation in this age of Kali.

Srila Prabhupada said the Golden Age is reinforced as more and more devotees take to chanting the Hare Krishna mahamantra. It will go on for 10,000 years, after which the Symptoms of Kali-yuga will manifest fully.

GAURABDA also refers to the Krishna-conscious calendar system designed by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Thakura to celebrate the Golden Avatara's appearance anniversary on the Purnima (full Moon) tithi of Govinda month, called Sri Gaura Purnima. The New Year starts with Sri Jagannatha Mishra feast on the day after Sri Gaura Purnima and ends with the next Sri Gaura Purnima. Each year is called Gaurabda and its anniversary number counted from the Lord's advent in 1486.
